Nadia: Welcome Lisa!
Lisa: Hello Nadia, thank you for hosting me at your home.
Nadia: You are welcome, it’s a good opportunity to practice the Arabic language and learn about the rituals of Eid Al Adha.
Lisa: Oh yeah! I noticed that you celebrate it these days but I don’t know a lot about it.
Nadia: Okay, let me tell you a little bit about it
It’s called Eid Al Adha (feast of Sacrifice) to commemorate the act of prophet Ibrahim who sacrificed a lamb that God sent instead of his son Ismail. And in the same time every year, Muslims sacrifice an animal like a sheep, a cow or a camel and distribute its meat on poor people and their relatives and keep some of it for themselves.
Lisa: Wow, and Eid Al Adha is one day?
Nadia: No, Eid Al Adha is celebrated for 4 days, on the first day Muslims perform Al Eid prayer and slaughter the animals. Then we enjoy the delicious food, make family visits, sometimes we travel, also kids receive money and wear new clothes.
Lisa: Beautiful! I love festivity and new clothes.
Nadia: And don’t forget the delicious meat dishes.
Lisa: Nadia, did you forget that I’m vegetarian?
Nadia: Oh my God! I totally forgot.
Lisa: No problem!
Lisa: Next year, it’s better to come in Eid Al Fitr where we eat cookies and not meat.
Lisa: Good idea.
Nadia and Lisa: Hahahahahaha.
